BJA Child Protection Information
Notes for Parents
As part of the implementation of the BJA-Judo Scotland child protection policy t
he qualified club coaches all have enhanced disclosure certificates.  Currently the other helpers have basic disclosures for working with children but in some cases these are for other sports or activities, this is likely to be change as part of our implementation of the BJA Child Protection Policy. In 2008 we appointed Judith Tait as our independant Club Welfare Officer whose remit is to assist with the policy implementation and to ensure the policy is adhered to by the coaching team. Judith is a qualified Social Worker and has a wealth of practical experience.

In practice on club training nights in an attempt to keep it simple and open:

  • All lessons are entirely 'on the mat' in plain view of all.
  • No leader is alone with children.
  • Parents are very welcome to watch the lessons.

Note - most leaders have their own children at lessons or are parents themselves and can appreciate the issues.

If you have any concerns or need clarification on any issue please speak to Judith or contact her by email.
